Being prepared means having the supplies you need when SHTF. However, your bug out bag (BOB) doesn’t need to be heavy. Instead, it should be light and easy to carry at all times. These days, more and more companies are going small – an advantage for all preppers. This means you can fit more items in your BOB without the added weight. Here are some lightweight essentials that you might want to consider adding in your BOB. (h/t to ThePreppingGuide.com)
Most sleeping bags are bulky, which makes the Agirgle Emergency Sleeping bag is the perfect replacement. It only weighs 5.3 ounces and is small enough to fit in the palm of your hands. It is also made of durable materials that will not easily rip or puncture.
Many preppers consider fishing gears as one of their essentials for a bug-out situation. However, many BOBs are not designed to be large enough to fit a full-sized fishing reel. Fortunately, there is a pocket-size survival fishing kit, which has all the essentials needed to catch fish.
A bug out situation doesn’t mean you and your family can’t have some fun. The Sphero Mini Ball is a tiny robot, the size of a ping pong ball, that you can drive around using an app. It also has a gyroscope, accelerometer, and multiple LED lights, as well as three mini traffic cones and six bowling pins.
In a bug-out situation, being informed matters. The Eton Scorpion Rugged Portable Radio and Charger will help you with just that. It receives AM, FM, and NOAA Weatherband and can be tuned digitally. It also doubles as a flashlight and a charger.
Sponsored solution from the Health Ranger Store: Lab-verified Nascent Iodine solution is a dietary supplement that provides your body with supplemental iodine to help protect your thyroid during radiation exposure. Nuclear accidents such as Fukushima (or nuclear war) can expose your body to radioactive iodine-131, a dangerous radioisotope. Pre-loading your system with stable iodine occupies the iodine receptor sites on your organs, causing your body to naturally expel radioactive iodine you may have been exposed to through air, food, water or milk products. This defensive strategy is recommended by nearly all health authorities, worldwide, including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Discover more at this link.
LifeStraws are definitely a lifesaver. This pocketable personal water filter can remove small parasites and harmful bacteria, as wells as microplastics. LifeStraw will ensure that your drinking water is clean at all times. (Related: Six methods to purify water for off-grid survival.)
Playing music will help relieve some of the stress that a bug-out situation brings. The Kunodi speaker is so portable that you can hang it on the side of your bag. There is no need to worry about it malfunctioning when it gets wet since this speaker is waterproof. It also comes with lithium-ion batteries that can give you up to four hours of music time.
The Victorinox Swisscard is a versatile tool. It functions as a knife, scissors, ruler, straight pin, blade, and a Phillips screwdriver. There isn’t a need to bring those items with you when you have the Victorinox Swisscard in your BOB.
Survival can be a little tricky, even if you have your essentials. Imagine a world where you can’t go to the movies. Having access to entertainment options is an often overlooked aspect of surviving an SHTF scenario. Thankfully, Piqo made the world’s most powerful pocket-sized projector for this very reason. The Pico Projector is pocket-sized but packs a punch; at just over two inches all the way around, it projects a 250-inch widescreen and high fidelity sound.
Going small is a necessity in prepping. The more tools and supplies you can fit in your BOB, the better your chances of surviving when SHTF. The Thorfire LED Camping Lantern fits perfectly for your diminutive lighting needs. It is an LED lantern that is foldable and weighs less than 6 ounces. Not only does it run on built-in rechargeable batteries, but it can also be powered by hand cranking when you’re in a bind. This amazing hand crank will even let you charge your smartphone through the lantern.
The last thing on your mind when you are prepping is that you might need a chainsaw, which makes sense because chainsaws are rather unwieldy. However, chainsaws are very useful in getting firewood. Fortunately, Skyocean created a tiny portable chainsaw that fits in your pocket. The 36-inch long chainsaw can fold into six inches, and weighs only 0.44 pounds. It uses strong interwoven nylon fiber ropes, more commonly known as paracord handles, so you know it is sturdy and reliable. If you need more reach, you can untie the handles to make your handy chainsaw go up to 275 inches.
Any prepper could use a tent. You never know when you’ll run out of roof to put over your heads. The problem with tents is they take up a lot of space, but that’s where the Go Time Gear Tent comes in. This tent especially made for preppers folds into a 5.25 x 3.5 inches drawstring bag that weighs 8.7 ounces. It is made of extra-thick polyethylene material that is resistant to punctures and wear and tear. Don’t let the portability fool you – it’s a sturdy tent that can protect you from the rain, wind, and snow. Additionally, it is designed to reflect up to 90 percent of your body heat to make sure you’re warm inside.
These are just some of the mini-sized items that you can bring when bugging out. BugOut.news has more about small but useful tools that you might want to consider putting in your BOB.
